Part of the Permanent Collection, the Patuá Shirt explores the relationship between clothing, memory and symbolic objects.
Crafted from natural hemp, its oversized silhouette becomes a canvas for individually hand-applied charms. Inspired by the idea of the patuá — an object traditionally carried close to the body and associated with protection and personal meaning — the embellishments transform the surface of the garment into a composition of small, tactile symbols.
The natural texture of hemp contrasts with the delicacy and movement of the applications, bringing together material simplicity and meticulous handwork. Each shirt is individually composed, allowing subtle variations in placement and arrangement to make every piece distinct.
Designed as part of a limited series, the Patuá Shirt reflects Malu Sanffer’s ongoing exploration of material, body and cultural memory through contemporary dress.
